Meet Hannah... Hannah grew up mostly in Colorado Springs, Colorado and attended Colorado Christian University, where she studied Elementary Education. She enjoyed running cross country and track with her teammates and excelled in steeplechase. Hannah continues to be an avid runner, enjoys reading, and helping her friends and community. In 2017, Hannah prayed to find a place where Christian laborers were few and where there was also a great need for teachers, so that she could use her skills as a teacher to serve and build relationships in a community in need of the Gospel. She connected with Tikkun Olam the following summer and was convinced that the opportunity matched all the specific things that God had put on her heart. Here on the Fort Peck Reservation and throughout her three years of teaching, she has found that answer to prayer and many more blessings. When Hannah isn’t teaching first grade or coaching cross country, she is often lesson planning for Sunday school or greeting children at the front door who want to spend time with her or grab a snack. Hannah shares “Wherever we go, each day can become an offering of love to God, as we pray, seek Him in His word, and love and speak the truth to the people He has placed in our lives. He graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and went to pursue a Specialist Degree in School Psychology. Always wanting to work with children, he felt like God was calling him to use his skill set to help students in an academic setting. While interning as a school psychologist in 2020-2021, he didn’t feel that he was really making a difference or helping anyone with his work. During this time, Andrew heard about Tikkun Olam through a friend and after visiting the community of Wolf Point, knew this was the path God had planned for him. His passion is connection and mentoring, and goes out of his way to look for students who need a positive role model in their lives. Besides starting his first year as a school psychologist and interventionist, he also helps out with different committees at the schools and recently started a tabletop roleplaying club at the high school. Andrew volunteers with our cooking classes and loves empowering youth to feel confident in the kitchen. Laura Curl and her children: Abigail (16) and Andres (13) are also starting their fifth year in Wolf Point with Tikkun Olam. Prior to moving to Wolf Point, they had been living in Denver for 7 years, where Laura worked as a teacher with Denver Public Schools. Before that, they lived in Mexico, among the Tarahumara people, where Laura was a missionary. When Laura decided to make the transition back to the States from Mexico, God provided for this family in amazing ways, allowing Laura to get a teaching license, blessing them with a home, and including them into the larger family of Bear Valley Church. Laura taught Kindergarten at the elementary school in Wolf Point for 2 years and loved getting to know the children, the teachers, and many families in the community. While Laura enjoyed teaching in a school setting, she wanted to focus more on younger children. Last year was our first year of having Little Orchard on the Hill as our in-home daycare and Laura has done amazing work being the center Director by teaching children Bible stories, praying over the children, teaching them about who God is, and helping them understand how unconditionally loved they are by the Father. Abby and Andy are homeschooling for the first time and look forward to new experiences and creating a customized learning environment to further explore their interests. Abby is currently learning how to drive and plans on getting a therapy dog, working with the Department of Child and Family Services to offer play therapy to kids who have been recently removed from their homes. Janet holds a diploma as a livestock technician and Edwin has a degree in physical and sports education. They both worked for the Cameroon government for many years while they raised their family. In 1998, God led Edwin and Janet to start a ministry with the vision of reaching out to children in their community, especially low socioeconomic ones. They reached out to the children with the Gospel while also prioritizing their physical and emotional needs. They praise God that they are able to reach 50 orphans and 33 widows/ single moms. Edwin and Janet’s vision to continue to reach out to underprivileged people still remains a burning passion in their hearts. They operate their 501(c)(3) organization in the USA with the motto as "Loving people, changing lives". Speaking love and truth to people is their top priority, which is evident in the way that they humbly serve and care for their Tikkun Olam team members and with countless youth in the community of Wolf Point. Edwin and Janet share “Joining Tikkun Olam is a fulfillment of our passion to reach out to the children here at Wolf Point. Anthony and Faith met nine years ago when they both had internships at the International House of Prayer and have since been radically following Jesus into the missions field. They have been married for 8 years and blessed with three wonderful children. Faith has a background in Information Technology, specifically in systems/web administration and cybersecurity. She has a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology with a concentration in cybersecurity. Anthony’s background is in heavy equipment operation and agriculture, but has stepped away from these familiar roles to follow what God has called his family to do on the Reservation. He is a Special Education Paraprofessional within the school district, ministers to members of the homeless community, youth at the local skate park, pretty much anyone who crosses his path. The Harrisons are a very passionate about unity in the Body of Christ Yeshua through a culture of prayer. This is her second year with Tikkun Olam and is teaching 1st grade at Southside Elementary. While starting your first year of teaching is difficult for anyone, beginning in the middle of a pandemic has been both uncertain and nerve racking, but Sarah has handled it wonderfully. From helping out with Wednesday night youth church to always lending a hand at our Tikkun Olam daycare and the community’s local soup kitchen, Sarah is right at home when she is serving the Lord and His people in Wolf Point. When she’s not lesson planning and serving the community, good coffee and listening to music fill her days. She also enjoys reading and writing, hiking, and working out with everyone else in Tikkun Olam. Scott Montgomery is a graduate of Colorado Christian University with a degree in Elementary Education. Scott grew up on a farm in Eden, Idaho with his father, Don, his mother, Shelley, and his brother, Jason. He enjoys sports, the outdoors, reading books, and playing his guitar. Scott will be returning to South Side Elementary to continue teaching 3rd grade and is excited to continue engaging with his students and in the community at large. Scott will continue assisting with football in the fall and looks forward to new opportunities to grow. Although it was hard to leave beautiful Colorado Scott is looking forward to exploring the Great Frontier in Northern Montana. Scott has a heart for the missions field and was touched when he heard about this community in need. Hannah is a recent graduate from Colorado Christian University that is joining the Tikkun Olam family as a 1st grade teacher at South Side Elementary. Hannah is originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado and is an avid runner doing both cross country and track throughout her collegiate career. She loves to read and is a continuous learner seeking information from all kinds places. Hannah has been praying for an opportunity to use her teaching skills and serve in a community of great need. She was excited to hear about Tikkun Olam and quickly felt like God was calling her to the Reservation. She looks forward to growing her teaching skills, becoming involved in the community and understanding the stories and perspectives of the people on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation along side the Tikkun Olam family. As a Faith Based organization, we turn to our Jewish roots and recognize that God asked his people the Israelite's to love the Lord their God with all of their hearts, with all of their souls and with all of their might and to love their neighbor as themselves. God’s grace compels us to seek out those who struggle and stand with them when no one else can or will. We seek like-minded people who believe that they have been blessed and want to make a difference in the lives of those who struggle and need someone to stand with them. Native American Indians are a deeply spiritual people and they communicated their history, thoughts, ideas and dreams from generation to generation through symbols and signs. Our logo, the Eye of a Medicine Man is a very powerful symbol which reflects spiritual healing and a vision, or eye, that looks to the future. The colors of our logo, seen in the Sioux Medicine Wheel below, describe the avenues in which we hope to help these children, spiritual (black), mental (red), emotional (yellow), and physical (white). Jana was a loving wife, mother, foster mother, grandmother, sister, teacher and friend who had a passion for helping kids. Jana and husband Ken moved from her ‘forever home’ in Conifer, Colorado to Wolf Point, Montana where she worked as a teacher in the local school. She loved spending time with the kids and thrived on helping children who came from homes that lacked a stable environment due to numerous socioeconomic concerns. Kids in need of a warm smile and a little gravitated to her class and often followed her home for dinner or jumped in her car for church. Jana was touched by the numerous stories of kids coming from broken homes whose parents struggle with drug and alcohol abuse. Unemployment on the Reservation exceeds 50% and the life expectancy for a Native American man is less than 50 years. Hard times for those on the Reservation fall hardest on the children. Jana often picked kids up on her way to school to ensure that they made it to class and it was common to find her in the kitchen making supper for those who didn’t have food in the house.Due to the lack of foster families on the Reservation, Jana and Ken became foster parents and opened their home to kids with special needs. As parents struggled to cope with their problems, Jana provided a safe home, big smile and warm beds to kids with nowhere else to turn.While it is difficult to measure success on a Reservation, Jana’s metric was a smiling face and safe living conditions for her kids. By bringing shalom to chaos and encouraging those with little family support, Jana provided us all with a model on how to love kids and make a difference. Her philosophy was simple, invest in the kids.
